Mildred O. Lundby, age 91, of Cresco, Iowa, died Sunday, May 10, 2009 at Regional Health Services of Howard County in Cresco, Iowa following a short illness.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, May 15, 2009 at First Lutheran Church in Cresco by Rev. Robert G. Thacker with burial in Lincoln Lutheran Cemetery, rural Ridgeway.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Thursday at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah, and on Friday one hour before the service at the church.

Mildred Olivette (Landswerk) Lundby was born December 18, 1917, the daughter of Theodore and Bertha (Otteson) Landswerk. She was baptized and confirmed at the rural Lutheran Church near Saude, Iowa. She attended Cresco High School.

She was united in marriage to Lorence M. Lundby on April 1, 1939. To this union, four children were born: Lorence Marion, Joan, Michael and Rebecca. Mildred and Lorence were married for 67 years and lived in Cresco, Iowa since 1993. Lorence died in May of 2006.

While living on the farm near Ridgeway, Mildred had been active at Lincoln Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday school, helping with the Luther League youth group and participating in the women’s PTA. She was also a member of Decorah Lutheran Church and, most recently, First Lutheran Church in Cresco.

Mildred worked on the Catering Staff at Luther College for 19 years, retiring in 1985. She was a 4-H leader of young women in the Lincoln Sunflowers 4-H club. She was extremely grateful to the V.F.W. in Howard County for recognizing her as a “Gold Star” mother and for all the kindness they had shown her over the years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lorence on May 30, 2006; her son, Sgt. Lorence Marion Lundby, who died in the Vietnam War on March 4, 1968; her daughter-in-law, Mary Lundby; and her brother, Carlton Landswerk.

Mildred is survived by three children: Joan (Darryl) Rue of St. Louis, MO, Michael (State Senator Mary – deceased) Lundby of Marion, IA, and Rebecca (William) Moyer of Carlock, IL; four grandchildren, Marc (Andrea) Rue of West Union, IA, Lance (Angela) Rue of O’Fallen, MO, Daniel Lundby of Bronx, NY and Sarah Moyer of Carlock, IL; two great-granddaughters, Madison and Baylee Rue; two step great-grandchildren, Alexis and Colton Caldwell; and a sister-in-law, LeVohn Miller of North Richland Hills, TX.

Memorials may be given to HoCA, %Julie Stinson, 21121 State Hwy. 9, Cresco, IA 52136 or an organization of the donor’s choice.
