Lorence M. Lundby, age 87 of Cresco, Iowa and formerly of Decorah, died Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at Regional Health Services of Howard County in Cresco, Iowa following a long illness.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, June 2, 2006 at First Lutheran Church in Cresco, by the Rev. John Gannett, with burial in Lincoln Lutheran Cemetery, rural Ridgeway, IA.

Friends may call from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Thursday, June 1, 2006 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and after 10:00 A.M. Friday at the church.

Lorence Marion Lundby was born April 15, 1919 in Ridgeway, Iowa, the son of Elling and Josephine (Bakken) Lundby. He was baptized and confirmed at Lincoln Lutheran Church, rural Ridgeway. Lorence was educated in country school and graduated from Ridgeway High School with the Class of 1937.

He was united in marriage to Mildred O, Landswerk on April 1, 1939. To this union, four children were born: Lorence Marion, Joan, Michael and Rebecca.

Lorence farmed for many years near Ridgeway in Lincoln Township. The couple later moved to a small acreage near Decorah in 1971. He enjoyed raising Clydesdale horses and both angus and shorthorn cattle. Lorence also worked at the lumberyard, First Lutheran Church and Roverud Construction in Decorah. The couple relocated to Cresco in 1993.

Lorence was a 4H leader for many years. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Cresco and a former member of Lincoln Lutheran Church and Decorah Lutheran Church. He also held membership in the National Clysdale Association, the Shorthorn Association and he showed registered shorthorn cattle at local fairs for many years. For seven years, Lorence and Mildred participated in the Friendly Town Project, an effort to bring inner city youth from Chicago to a rural community for a two week visit. Lorence loved his family and was active in all of their activities. He also enjoyed baseball.

Lorence died Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at Regional Health Services of Howard County in Cresco at the age of 87 years following a long illness.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Mildred of Cresco; three children, Joan (Darryl) Rue of St. Louis, MO, Michael (State Senator Mary) Lundby of Marion, IA, and Rebecca (William) Moyer of Carlock, IL; four grandchildren, Marc (Andrea) Rue of West Union, IA, Lance (Angela) Rue of O’Fallen, MO, Daniel Lundby of Bronx, NY and Sarah Moyer of Carlock, IL; one great- granddaughter, Madison Rue; two step grandchildren, Alexis and Colton Caldwell; and a sister, LeVohn Miller of North Richland Hills, TX.

Lorence was preceded in death by a son, Sgt. Lorence Marion Lundby who died in the Vietnam War on March 4, 1968; his parents; two sisters, Edna Lundby and Beulah Werhan and a brother, Clarence Lundby.
