Verdis L. Little, age 84, of Decorah, IA, died Thursday, October 14, 2010 at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at Burr Oak Lutheran Church in Burr Oak, Iowa with Rev. Matt Larson officiating. Private Family Burial will be in Burr Oak Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 A. M. Wednesday, one hour before the service at the church. Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah is serving the family.
Verdis Lucille Wheatman Little was born January 22, 1926 to Ernest and Alice (Numedahl) Wheatman in Calmar, Iowa. She was baptized at the Calmar Lutheran Church by Reverend H.A. Preus and confirmed at the Decorah Lutheran Church by Reverend Ole Glesne.
Verdis lived with her parents on Great-grandpa Henry Wheatman’s farm and she started rural school in Calmar Township, then they moved to Grandpa Richard Wheatman’s farm in Springfield Township. They moved to Decorah in 1944.
Verdis graduated from Decorah High School in 1944. During high school she worked at Darling’s Drug Store. In January of 1944 she started working at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company and continued there until she was married.
She was united in marriage to Forest E. Little on November 30, 1946 at Decorah Lutheran Parsonage. This union was blessed with two sons: Thomas and Donald.
They farmed in Hesper Township until Tom and Don came home to farm. In 1998 they moved to Decorah. Verdis was member of Burr Oak Lutheran Church
Verdis moved to Barthell Eastern Star Home on January 30, 2010.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Alice; her husband, Forest E. Little, on September 21, 2002; her son, Donald W. Little, on July 2, 1997; and an infant brother, Vincent Lester Wheatman.
Verdis is survived by her oldest son, Thomas H. Little of Decorah, IA; three grandchildren, Sarah Little of Denver, CO, Rachel Little of Decorah, IA, and Mark Little of Decorah, IA; her daughter-in-law, Jennifer Little of Hesper, IA; a special friend, Anvy Wicks of Decorah; and her former daughter-in-law, Sue Little, of Decorah.
