Hattie E. Lillegraven, age 87, of Decorah, Iowa, died Monday, January 21, 2008 at Aase Haugen Home in Decorah following a short illness.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, January 25, 2008 at Madison Lutheran Church in rural Decorah by Rev. Phillip Olson and Rev. Ginny Olson. Burial will be in Phelps Cemetery in Decorah.

Friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. Thursday, January 24 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and an hour prior to the services on Friday at the church.

Hattie Else (Baethke) Lillegraven was born July 3, 1920 at home in rural Howard County, Iowa, the daughter of John and Mathilda (Eberling) Baethke. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco, Iowa. Hattie attended grade school and high school in Cresco, graduating with the class of 1938.

She was united in marriage with Roland G. Lillegraven on June 4, 1938 in Waterloo, Iowa. This union was blessed with two children: John and Susan.

Hattie worked at Holt Dairy in Decorah and then at Luther College where she did cleaning for 19½ years. She also helped Roland farm for many years and raised chickens. She liked her garden, flowers, sewing, crocheting and knitting, and Hattie loved to cook.

Hattie was a longtime member of Madison Lutheran Church and was very active in ELCA and circle.

She became a resident of the Aase Haugen Home on March 27, 2007.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Susan Williams, on October 26, 2002; and son-in-law, Dave Williams, on May 5, 2006; two brothers: Harlan and Rueben Baethke; and one sister, Violet Frieberg.

Hattie is survived by her husband of more than 69 years, Roland of Decorah; one son, John (Wanda) Lillegraven of Decorah; one granddaughter, Ashley Williams, a student at U.N.I. in Cedar Falls, Iowa; three grandsons: Paul (Nicki) Lillegraven of Decorah, Brian (Julie) Williams of Bettendorf, Iowa, and John (Stacy) Williams of Ankeny, Iowa; seven great-grandchildren: Emily, Cameron and Breanna Williams, Nathan and Natalie Williams and McKinley and Andy Lillegraven; two sisters-in-law: Mercedus Baethke of Cresco, and Charlotte Baethke of Timmerman, Minnesota; and by several nieces and nephews.
