Lucille Lechtenberg, age 81, of Fort Atkinson, Iowa, died on Thursday, December 24, 2009, at the Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, WI.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson, Iowa, with Rev. David Beckman presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m., on Monday, December 28, 2009, at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, Chekal Chapel, in Fort Atkinson, Iowa. There will be a rosary at 4:00 and a scripture service at 5:00 p.m.

Lucille Betty (Tillman) Lechtenberg was born on September 25, 1928, the daughter of Hubert and Frances (Rasing) Tillman at home in rural St. Lucas, Iowa. Lucille was baptized in the Catholic faith and celebrated her First Communion and Confirmation at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in St. Lucas. Lucille made her eighth grade graduation from the Catholic School in St. Lucas and then helped on her parents’ family farm. Lucille married Edwin Joseph Lechtenberg on May 29, 1946 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in St. Lucas. To this union, nine children were born: Lorraine, Linus, Lyle, LaVern, Linda, Jane, Joyce, Leroy and Judy. Edwin and Lucille farmed for many years. Lucille started working at Aase Hauge Home in 1969 and worked there for twenty-five years. Lucille’s family was very important to her, especially her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Some of her special interests and activities were crocheting, embroidering and sewing. She made beautiful quilts and afghans for her family. She made beautiful angels and enjoyed making and selling her crafts at the area craft shows. She loved attending her grandchildren’s ballgames and taking them fishing. She enjoyed going to the boat to gamble and playing cards with her friends; belonging to two card clubs. Lucille was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, the American Legion Auxiliary, Rosary Society and the Jackson Homemakers. Lucille was a retired member of the Ladies Guild and a member of St. John’s Catholic Church.
Lucille’s survivors include her eight children: Lorraine (Russell) Karnik and Linus (Judy) Lechtenberg, all of Fort Atkinson, IA; Lyle (Sandy) Lechtenberg, Hokah, MN; Linda (Dean) Kofoot, Fort Atkinson, IA; Jane (Dave) Brincks, Ossian, IA; Joyce (Craig) Numedahl, Urbandale, IA; Leroy Lechtenberg, Princeton, IA and Judy (Ron) Reynolds, Fredericksburg, VA. One daughter-in-law: Theresa White, Indianola, IA. Nineteen grandchildren: Kristi Karnik, Kelley (Dustin) Mead, Kimberly (Nathan) Fiser and Ryan (Billie) Karnik, Vicki (Rick) Dirksen, Karla and Chad Lechtenberg, Michelle (Harry) Wahl and Todd (Bettie) Lechtenberg, Anthony Lechtenberg, Jeremy (Keegan) Kofoot, Jason and Joshua Kofoot, Michael (Erika) and Kayla Brincks, Matthew and Marc Numedahl, Jennifer and Nicole Reynolds. Fifteen great grandchildren: Rasheem, ShaKira, Kourtney, Tyler, Chloe, Hailee, Lexie, Ariana, Maya, Logan, Bryce, Kaden, Gemma, Nicholas, and Jaden. Three sisters: Adella Tieskotter, Waterloo, IA; Bernadette Tieskotter, Little Turkey, IA; and Jovena Lechtenberg, Lawler, IA. Two sisters-in-law: Angela Schilling, Wausau, WI and Marie Wilberding, Alta Vista, IA. One brother-in-law: and Robert Lechtenberg, Lawler, IA.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents: Hubert and Frances Tillman. Her husband: Edwin Lechtenberg on May 20, 2008. One son: LaVern Lechtenberg on Oct. 30, 2006. One sister: Regina Tieskotter. One brother: Leonard Tillman. Five brothers-in-law: Johnny, Anthony, Lawrence Alfred and Norbert Lechtenberg.
