Funeral Held Saturday for Drowning Victim Iver Heier, 32

Funeral services for Iver A. Heier, 32, Pleasant Township farmer who drowned last Tuesday in a tragic accident at West Lake Okoboji, were held Saturday, Aug. 30, at 2 p.m. in Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church with Rev. Olaf O. Brandt, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the Canoe Ridge Cemetery.

The deceased was born July 29, 1943, in Decorah, the son of Maurice and Helen Heier, who survive. He was educated in Decorah public schools and spent his entire life in Winneshiek County except for six years in military service from 1961 to 1967.

Iver Heier married Ursula Glacer Nov. 19, 1964, in Germany, and she survives the drowning victim as do four children, Patricia Heier, 18, of Decorah, Gerhard, 12, Thomas, 10, and Iver Jr., 4, all at home, his parents, two brothers, Maurice Heier Jr. of Moscow, Idaho, and Michael Heier at home, three sisters, Mrs. Burton Gavle and Mrs. Ralph Abbott of Decorah and Elizabeth Heier at home, and a grandmother, Mrs. Bertha Severide of Decorah.

The deceased belonged to the Masonic Lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was a director of Land O' Lakes, Winneshiek Co-op, and the Winneshiek Cattlemen's Assoc.

Pallbearers at the funeral were Richard Geving, Paul Stoskopf, Lyle Barth, Dennis Blumhagen, George Bidne, Ronald Gavle, Stuart Otis, John Lillegraven, Eugene Stoen, Truman Tollefsrud Jr., Ronald Rasmussen, and Roger Bullerman. Mrs. M.O. Faldet was organist, and hymns were sung by the congregation.

Steine Funeral Home in Decorah was in charge of arrangements.
