Clifford L. Kroshus, age 89, of Sparta, WI, died Wednesday morning, February 24, 2010 at Morrow Memorial Home in Sparta.

A Celebration Of Clifford's Life and Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 13, 2010 at Big Canoe Lutheran Church in rural Decorah by Rev. David H. Andreae with inurnment in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 P.M. on Friday, March 12 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah.

Clifford Lavurne Kroshus was born in Spring Grove, MN on January 17, 1921, the son of Albert and Genevieve (Anderson) Kroshus. Clifford graduated from Decorah High School in 1940 and soon moved to California. Clifford went to work at Lockheed Aircraft. He joined the Navy while living in California and married the love of his life, Ethel Hanson on April 7, 1942. Before leaving the Navy they had their first child (Rita) while stationed in Pensacola, FL. After serving in the Navy, the family returned to Highlandville, IA where Clifford started farming and had two more children. It was while farming he made lifelong friends in the Highlandville area. Clifford went from farming to working for Decorah Implement in 1960. In 1964, Clifford, Ethel, and their two youngest children moved to Kansas where Clifford worked for the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Leavenworth, Kansas for 11 years. Clifford was transferred to Oxford Federal Prison in WI in 1975 where he worked until retirement in 1983. Clifford and Ethel thoroughly enjoyed their retirement and life together. For over 25 years Cliff and Ethel spent winters in Arizona, where Cliff enjoyed shuffleboard, playing cards, and video poker at the local casinos. Clifford enjoyed many other activities such as cheering on the Green Bay Packers and KU basketball.

Clifford is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ethel; his three children: Rita Steele(Ed) of Winona, MN, Bonnie Knutson(Richard) of Janesville, WI and Terry Kroshus(Rochelle) of Overland Park, KS. Clifford loved and was loved by his 5 grandchildren: Traci Brammer(John), Tod Blankenship(LuAnn), Matt Steele(Shari), Scott Steele(Kim) Ginny Kroshus; and six great grandchildren.

Clifford was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Genevieve Kroshus, his two brothers Jerome and Forrest, and sister Cecil Mason.

A special thank you to the Franciscan Skemp Hospice for their special care of Cliff and a very special thank you to his hospice nurse Linda. Linda was our special angel during this difficult time.
