Gary Krivachek, age 34, of Fort Atkinson, IA, died unexpectedly on Thursday, October 6, 2011, at his home in Decorah, IA, from meningitis.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson, IA, with Rev. Nick March presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m., on Monday, and also from 9:00-10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, Chekal Chapel in Fort Atkinson, IA. There will be a rosary at 4:00 and a scripture service at 5:00 p.m.

Gary Joseph Krivachek was born on October 2, 1977, the youngest of six children of Art and Christine (Phillips) Krivachek in Decorah, IA. Gary graduated from Turkey Valley High School in 1996 and attended NICC in Calmar, taking writing classes. After the death of both of his parents, Gary moved to Decorah and continued to work at McDonalds, where he had been employed since his father’s death. Gary had many passions that included writing, collecting comic books, cats and angels, watching the Minnesota Vikings, and playing pool. He loved being with his friends and family, where he was a jokester and loved to tell stories. He always enjoyed a good game of cards, a skill that he had learned from his parents. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Gary is survived by his two sisters: Jan (Steve) Timmerman, Arthur, ND, and Jean (Gary) Schick, Rushford, MN. Three brothers: Larry (Diane) Krivachek, Waukon, IA; Steve (Sandy) Krivachek, West Union, IA; and Mike (MiYong) Krivachek, Valdosta, GA. Three nieces: Shannon Lepa, Kelsey Krivachek & Brittany Schick. Eight nephews: Matthew, Travis & Brent Timmerman, Jesse Lepa, Kyle Krivachek, Brandon Schick, William Krivachek & Gene Krivachek. Nine great nieces and nephews: Sommer, Brendon & Hallie Timmerman, Kasey & Klara Thompson, Kale Kuennen, Tristan O’Connell, Braylon & Kellon Lepa, along with many, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Gary was preceded in death by his mother: Christine on May 6, 1994 and his father: Art on March 27, 1999. His grandparents: William & Otila Krivacek and George & Mary Phillips, along with many aunts and uncles.
