Roy Wicks, 69, Well-Known Area Farmer, Dies

A well known Decorah area farmer, Roy Wicks died March 21 at his home in Pleasant Township at the age of 69.

Mr. Wicks had farmed his entire life in Winneshiek County and also was movie projectionist for 25 years at the Grand Theatre.

Funeral services for Mr. Wicks were conducted by the Rev. David W. Ash at the Congregational Church Sunday at 2 o'clock with burial in the Canoe Methodist Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Arthur Morrison, Dennis Young, Lester Ellingson, Earl Knoke, Francis Massman and Van Butler. Honorary pallbearers were Milton Young, Chester Erickson, Lawrence Jarstad, Ted Schrandt, Roger Bullerman, Ted Morrison, Selmer Larson and Charles Quandahl.

Music was furnished by Mrs. Ransome Bolson, organist, and Max Greentree, soloist. Steine Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Wicks is survived by his wife, the former Hulda Voegeding; one son, Merrill Wicks, Tacoma, Wash.; two daughters, Mrs. Dorothea Evjen, Rochester, Minn. and Mrs. Charles (Darlene) Willson of Cedar Rapids; 12 grandchildren and one brother, Claude Wicks of Burr Oak.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Eva Wicks; one sister and three brothers.

Roy Wicks was born July 24, 1904 in Burr Oak. He attended school in Burr Oak and Valdors Business College, was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Fox and Coon Club. He was married November 18, 1930 in Minneapolis.
