Mrs. Tina Otteson, Pioneer County Woman, Dies at 95

A pioneer Winneshiek County and Decorah woman, Mrs. Tina Otteson, died October 18 at the Decorah Retirement Center where she was a resident. Mrs. Otteson was 95. She had lived in Winneshiek County her entire life, moving to Decorah 32 years ago.

Funeral services for Mrs. Otteson were held Saturday at the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church with burial in the church cemetery. Pastor Olaf O. Brandt officiated, and arrangements were made by Steine Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Thomas Otteson, Richard Otteson, Kermit Hendrickson, Charles Istad, Oliver Faldet and Paul Arneson. Dennis Young was organist, and Pastor Brandt was soloist. Hymns were also sung by the congregation.

Mrs. Otteson is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Albert (Tilla) Hendrickson and Mrs. Dewey (Cora) Sampson, both of Decorah, and Mrs. Stella Istad of Minneapolis; two sons, Emmett Otteson, Minneapolis, and Norris Otteson, Decorah; 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; one brother, Harry Grindeland, of Decorah and two sisters, Mrs. Nora Arneson of Decorah and Mrs. Robert Barnes of Pompano Beach, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Thomas Otteson, three brothers and three sisters.

Tina M. Grindeland was born November 21, 1876 in Winneshiek County, the daughter of Nels and Turi Grindeland. She received her education in the rural schools and was a member of the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church. She was married December 12, 1892 in Pleasant Township. Her husband died July 13, 1927.
