Benhart Thompson Dies August 11 Rites Are Today

Funeral services for Benhart L. Thompson of Decorah are being held today (Tuesday, Aug. 13) at 2 p.m. at the Methodist Church in Decorah with burial in the Canoe Methodist Cemetery.

Mr. Thompson died August 11 at the Aase Haugen Home. He had lived in Winneshiek County and Decorah all his life and had been employed as an electrician with T.M. Halverson and a mechanic with the John Deere Co. here.

The Rev. Ward Stephenson will conduct funeral services with music furnished by Mrs. Hjalmar Carlson who will play the organ and accompany the congregation as they sing hymns. Pallbearers will be Arnold Thompson, Curtis Thompson, Ray Thompson, Bernell Dehning, Ray Sacquitne and Ben Sande. Arrangements are being made by Steine Funeral Home.

Mr. Thompson was born December 22, 1891 in Freeport, the son of Mathias and Lissa Thompson. He received his education in the rural schools and served in the United States Army in World War I.

He was married to the former Emma Bloom in 1918 at Winona, Minn. She died March 3, 1961, and he also was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and eight brothers.

Mr. Thompson is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Joy (Esther) Hovden of Fort Dodge; three sons, Luther Thompson, Marion, Ia., Robert Thompson of Central City, Ia. and Gerald Thompson of Decorah; 15 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

He was a member of the local American Legion post.
