Services held Wednesday for Emma Blagen

Funeral services for Emma L. Blagen of Decorah were conducted by Pastor Paul Christenson at First Lutheran Church Wednesday, March 2 at 11 a.m.

She died Sunday, Feb. 27 at Thornton Manor nursing home in Lansing of a lingering illness. Miss Blagen, who was 87 years of age at her death, had lived most of her life in Decorah and had been employed by two early Decorah businesses, John Longstreet Photographic Studio and the Decorah Meritol Co.

Burial was in the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers were Arthur Blegen, Ted Gjere, Truman Hove, Selmer Larsen, Selmer M. Larson and Julian Moe.

Honorary pallbearers were Gerhard Anderson, Palmer O. Anderson, Quinten Barthelme, Nathan Blegan, Chester Erickson, Lawrence Ruen and David Solum.

Norman Gjevre was solist. Arrangements were made by Sensor-French-Anderson Funeral Home.

Emma L. Blagen was born Aug. 7, 1895 in Pleasant Township to Martin and Mathea Blagen. She attended rural schools and she was a member of First Lutheran Church.

She had never married. She is survived by the following nieces, Mrs. Ernest (Esther) Anderson of Cresco, Melba Selland and Ellen Blagen, both of Decorah, Mrs. Selmer (Jeanette) Larson of Cresco and Mrs. Don (Hazel) Lentz of Elma, Ia. She also has several cousins.

Miss Blagen was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Alfred Blagen and two sisters, Mrs. Hildor (Eda) Egge and Mrs. Mary Larson.
