Henrietta Sundby, 87, of Decorah, died Saturday, June 21, 1997, at the Barthell Eastern Star Nursing Home in Decorah, after a long illness.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 24, at 2 p.m., at Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church of rural Decorah, with the Rev. Joseph Lambert officiating. Gracie Lambert was the organist, and together the couple served as vocalists.
Casket bearers were Garry Rasmussen, Dean Rasmussen, Ron Rasmussen, Mike Sabban, Dale Hovden, Steve Spilde and Kenny Beardmore. Honorary bearers were Mr. and Mrs. Roger Halse, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Neste, Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Wilbur, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Olson, and Mr. and Mrs. Orlando Halverson.
Interment was at the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Cemetery. The French & Balik Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Henrietta O. (Rasmussen) Sundby was born April 18, 1910, in Winneshiek County, the daughter of Jens and Stella (Rosendahl) Rasmussen. She was baptized May 8, 1910, and confirmed March 23, 1924, at Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church.
Henrietta and Casper Sundby, a native of Oslo, Norway, were married June 13, 1946, at Flandreau, S.D. Casper was the baker at a Decorah bakery where Henrietta worked for a time. She also was employed by Decorah Schools food service and Ruby's Restaurant.
Survivors include two sisters, Mae and Norman Brynsaas, and Selma and Russell Nelson; a sister-in-law, Marguerite Rasmussen; brothers Ray and Grace Rasmussen, Vernon and Lylus Rasmussen, and Ervin and Arlene Rasmussen; and many nieces and nephews.
Henrietta Sundby was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Casper, who died May 10, 1976; and two brothers, Lester and Marlyn.
