Lester S. Rasmussen, 81, of Decorah, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 1995, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn., as a result of injuries received in an accident Nov. 26.

Funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, Dec. 5, at 10 a.m., at Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church of rural Decorah with the Rev. Joseph A. Lambert officiating. Gracia Lambert will be the organist. The congregation will sing "My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less," "How Great Thou Art" and "Beautiful Savior."

Casket bearers will be Roger Halse, Ronald Lysne, Robert L. Spilde, Carl Svenson, David Svenson and Gary Svenson. Burial will be at Canoe Ridge Lutheran Cemetery. The Fjelstud Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Lester was born July 5, 1914, at the Glenwood Township home of his parents, Jens and Stella (Rosendahl) Rasmussen. He was baptized in July of 1914, and confirmed April 19, 1931, both at Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church. He attended school at Kelly School and Young School in Winneshiek County.

Lester married Marguerite Iverson Feb. 10, 1938, at Big Canoe Lutheran Church. He lived in Decorah his entire life. He farmed in Glenwood Township until 1970, when he retired and moved into Decorah.

Lester was a lifelong member of Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church. He served on the church council.

Survivors of Lester Rasmussen include his wife, Marguerite of Decorah; two daughters, Elaine and Lowell Inglett of Decorah, and Linda and Jan Koe of Barrington, Ill.; four grandchildren, Tami (Inglett) and Rick Fencl of Atlanta, Ga., Tina (Inglett) and Dale Hovden of Decorah, and Ian Koe and Adam Koe of Barrington, Ill.; three great-grandchildren, Erin and Christopher Fencl, and Kelsey Hovden; three brothers, Ray and Grace Rasmussen, Vernon and Lylas Rasmussen, and Ervin and Arlene Rasmussen, all of Decorah; and three sisters, Henrietta Sundby, Mae and Norman Brynsaas, and Selma and Russell Nelson, all of Decorah.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Lorraine, in infancy; one brother, Marlyn Rasmussen; and two sisters, who died in infancy.
