Marguerite Rasmussen

Marguerite Rasmussen died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn., at the age of 83, following a long illness.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 2 at 11 a.m. at Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church with Rev. Susan Debner officiating.

Organist is Kathy Tollefsrud and congregational hymns are "My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less," "How Great Thou Art," "Amazing Grace" and "Beautiful Savior."

Casketbearers are Tami and Rick Fencl, Tina and Dale Hovden, Adam Koe and Christopher Fencl.

Honorary Casketbearers are Erin Fencl, Kelsey Hovden, Ian Koe and Kenzie Hovden.

Interment will be in Canoe Ridge Lutheran Cemetery. Fjelstul Funeral Home of Decorah is handling arrangements.

Marguerite Oriska Iverson Rasmussen was born Jan. 9, 1920 in Decorah to Theodore and Rose (Thomas) Iverson.

She was baptized and confirmed at Big Canoe Lutheran Church in rural Decorah. She completed eighth grade in rural country school and attended Decorah High School.

She was united in marriage with Lester S. Rasmussen on Feb. 10, 1938 at Big Canoe Lutheran Church. To this union three daughters were born: Lorraine, Elaine, and Linda.

Marguerite and Lester Rasmussen farmed for many years in Glenwood Township, retiring in 1970 when they moved into Decorah.

Marguerite Rasmussen then started working in food service at John Cline Elementary School, retiring in 1990.

She was a member of Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church where she was very active in Ladies Aid and church circles.

She is survived by two daughters: Elaine (Lowell) Inglett of Decorah and Linda (Jan) Koe of Deer Park, Ill.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Gail Schrader of De Land, Fla., and Helen Seim of Ames and one brother, Stanley (Darlene) Iverson of Decorah.

Marguerite Rasmussen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester, on Dec. 2, 1995; one daughter, Lorraine, in infancy; and one sister, Frances Schwank, in Sept.1992.
