Florence Larson

Funeral services for Florence Violet Larson, 85, of Decorah, were held Monday, Aug. 29, 1994, at 11 a.m., at Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church of Decorah, with the Rev. Joseph Lambert officiating.

Connie Bolson was the organist. Casket bearers were Roger Bullerman, Gary Bryant, Fritz Massman, Dennis Young, Tom Otteson, Larry Thompson and David Sacquitne. Honorary bearers were grandsons Mark Sheetz, Kevin Sheetz, James Sheetz and Jeffrey Sheetz.

Burial was at Canoe Ridge Lutheran Cemetery. The French and Balik Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Florence Violet Nesheim was born March 21, 1909, at Virgil, S.D., the daughter of Olias and Clara (Erickson) Nesheim. She had two brothers, Abe and Oliver.

Florence was baptized in February of 1910 at Springwater and confirmed in her faith May 25, 1924, at Decorah Lutheran by the Rev. Glesne. She graduated from Decorah High School with the class of 1928.

On Nov. 1, 1933, Florence married Selmer Larson at the Decorah Lutheran parsonage. They had one daughter, Carolyn Ann, now of Richfield, Minn. The family has long belonged to Canoe Ridge and Florence was very active in the congregation, Ladies Aid and circle.

Florence was employed a few years at Woolworths in Decorah. She and Selmer lived on their farm in Pleasant Township for more than 40 years before moving to their present home on the North Winneshiek Road in 1975. Florence was admitted to the Aase Haugen Home in January of 1989 due to her health. She died there Friday, Aug. 26, 1994.

Survivors include her husband, Selmer; daughter Carolyn Franklin of Richfield, Minn., five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
