Norris Otteson dies May 5

Norris E. Otteson of Decorah died May 5 at the Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn. He was 80 years old and had lived and farmed in Pleasant Township all his life.

Funeral services were conducted by Pastor James Jensen at 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 9 at Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church where Mr. Otteson was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. The following served as casket bearers: Ralph Arneson, Paul Arneson, Stanley Arneson, Charles Istad, Milton Otteson and John McCarty.

Named honorary pallbearers were Earl Faldet, Oliver Faldet, Arthur Blegen, Gordon Pfister, Roy Halverson and Carmen Hanson. Dennis Young was organist and accompanied the soloist, Don Sanders. Arrangements were made by Steine Funeral Home.

Norris E. Otteson was born Feb. 12, 1903 in Pleasant Township to Thomas and Tina (Grindeland) Otteson. He attended rural schools and Valders Business College.

He was married to Ella V. Larson Nov. 17, 1937 at the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Parsonage.

Mr. Otteson is survived by his wife, seven children: Thomas Otteson of Decorah, Richard Otteson of Stewartville, Minn., Myrna Mattly, Bettendorf, Ia., Laurel Otteson of Rochester, Minn., Muriel Lensch, Decorah, LuAnne Otteson, New Orleans, La., and Karen Zelman of Dallas, Texas.; 10 grandchildren; one brother, Emmett Otteson of Minneapolis and two sisters, Mrs. Dewey (Cora) Sampson of Decorah and Mrs. Stella Istad of Minneapolis.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
