Katherine Sorenson dies October 3

Funeral services for Katherine Sorenson, 71, of Decorah, were held Saturday, October 6 at 11 a.m. at Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Sorenson died of heart failure on October 3 at the Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn. She had been ill for about 2 1/2 weeks.

Pastor Berg conducted the services, with Virginia Faldet serving as organist. Burial was at the Canoe Ridge Cemetery. Sensor-French Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Orvin Hotvedt, Maynard Hotvedt, Arlin Sorenson, Raymond Sorenson, Dennis Young and Don Sanders.

Katherine Hotvedt was born on August 8, 1913 in Winneshiek County. She attended high school and one year at Luther College. She married Leonard Sorenson on March 12, 1933 at Glenwood Parsonage. She was a member of the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church, Church Circle, ALCW, Church Council, and served as a Sunday school teacher. She was a former school teacher, past officer of BPW, and employee of Winneshiek County Health Care Facility.

Survivors include her husband Leonard; seven children, Lester Sorenson of Decorah, Arlene Larson of Ankeny, Elmer Sorenson of Ridgeway, Edna Jacobson of Mabel, Arnold Sorenson of Aspen, Colo., Dale Sorenson of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Marilyn Benzing of Decorah; 20 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchilden.
