John Edward Sorenson, 84, of Decorah, died May 4, 1991, at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital after a six-month cancer illness.

Funeral services were May 8 at 1 p.m. at French & Balik Funeral Home in Decorah. Burial was at Canoe Ridge Lutheran Cemetery, and the following were pallbearers: Lester Sorenson, Willard Sorenson, Tom Philips, Harold Erickson, Selmer Larson and Bob Sorenson.

Organist was Alan Sensor.

John Sorenson was born April 3, 1907, in Decorah, the son of Bendick and Susan Dinger Sorenson. He attended rural schools in the area, and was a member of Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church. He was a construction superintendent for Iowa Bridge Company until his retirement.

He is survived by four brothers, Ray, Walter and Oscar Sorenson, all of Decorah, and Sylvester Sorenson of Preston, Minn.; and one sister, Clara Tonne of Waterville, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers (Vernon, Melvin, Irvin and John) and a sister (Ethel Vick).
