Evelyn Erickson, 75, of Decorah, died Monday, April 8, 2002 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn., after a long illness.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 11 at the First United Methodist Church in Decorah with Rev. James Dale officiating.
Organist was Rev. Kristen Kvamme.
Casketbearers were Mike Frederick, Chad Erickson, Mindy Frederick, Kevin Frederick, Jeremy Erickson, Lory Penniman, Scott Frederick, Kristen Erickson and Mike Penniman.
Honorary Casketbearers were Opal Allen, Vivian Barth, Arla Ruffridge, Laverne Tiernan, Hazel Styve, Ivanell Lange, Darlene Vine, Margaret Borske, Tevi Winger, Alice Ruem, Arlene Fadness and Lorena Ellingson.
Interment was in Canoe Methodist Cemetery in rural Decorah, and Schluter-Balik Funeral Home of Decorah handled arrangements.
Evelyn Marie Erickson was born September 4, 1926 to Edward and Margaret (Harms) Houdek near Calmar.
She graduated from Decorah High School, and married Arthur Erickson on April 22, 1945 at the Methodist parsonage in Decorah.
They lived in Florida while Arthur Erickson was in the service.
They returned to Decorah and ran the Barbecue for one year and then she kept books for her husband at the Texaco Station and at Erickson's Sport Center.
Evelyn enjoyed knitting, sewing, crocheting, ceramics and rosemaling.
She was also active in the Ladies VFW & American Legion Auxiliary.
She taught Sunday school and held various church offices, and also served on the Physical Therapy board of directors at the Winneshiek Co. Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include her husband; Arthur Erickson; one son: Alan (Karen) Erickson; one daughter: Jan (Jim) Frederick, all of Decorah; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Evelyn Marie Erickson was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Olive Lewis.
