Charlotte Caroline (Hahn) Kjos was born on September 12, 1921, the daughter of Charley and Esther (Engelhart) Hahn in Houston, MN. Charlotte was baptized on December 10, 1921, at the Black Hammer Lutheran Church and was confirmed in 1935 at the Houston Lutheran Church. She grew up on a farm in Yucatan, Minnesota, where she developed a love for baking and gardening through 4-H. Even in her early years she excelled in the kitchen and won a 4-H trip for her homemade bread. She graduated from Houston High School in 1940 and then continued her education at Luther College where she earned a teaching certificate. She taught in several rural Winneshiek schools. Not only did she get an education in Decorah, but that was where she met her future husband, Clifford Kjos. They were married on May 13, 1945 at the Houston Lutheran Church, and she became his partner farming and caring for the home and family. Together they had four children: Cheryl, Linda, Carlton and Rhonda. During her life, she spent a great deal of time tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. As many people will remember, she was always a fantastic cook and welcomed all to her table. Her love for education was demonstrated, by how she encouraged her children to read and pursue higher education. Charlotte enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Charlotte was a member of the Madison Lutheran Church.

Charlotte is survived by her children: Cheryl (Craig) Campbell, Rochester, MN; Linda (Bruce) Galloway, Rochester, MN; Carlton (Cyndy) Kjos, Decorah, IA; and Rhonda (Doug) Abbott, Rochester, MN. Seven grandchildren: Clint Campbell, Drew (Amy) Campbell, Alicia (Seth) Watson, Nathan Galloway, Adam Abbott, Nicholas Abbott and Misty (Grant) Thompson. Four great grandchildren: Julian, Logan and Calin Watson, and Holden Thompson. One sister: Eileen (Russel) Sather, Houston, MN. One sister-in-law: Marilyn Hahn, Spring Grove, MN, along with several nieces and nephews.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents: Charley and Esther (Engelhart) Hahn. Her husband: Clifford Kjos on Sept. 11, 2005. Two brothers: Stanley Hahn and one in infancy.

The family would like to thank everyone who came to visit her while she spent her last years in the nursing home and also thank the people at Wellington Place and Cresco Care Center for the kindness and care she received.
