Evelyn Kittlesby, age 99, formerly of Calmar, Iowa, died on Wednesday, January 31, 2007, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home in Cedar Falls, Iowa, following a long illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 5, 2007 at the Calmar Lutheran Church, in Calmar, Iowa, with Rev. Norman Bauer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call after 10:00 a.m. on Monday at the church. The Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, French Chapel in Calmar, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
The family requests memorials to the Christian Crusaders Radio Ministry,In care of the Nazareth Lutheran Church, 7401 University Avenue, Cedar Falls, IA 50613.
Evelyn Bernice Kittlesby was born on July 6, 1907, on the family farm in rural Calmar, Iowa, the daughter of Sigvart T. and Clara (Flaskerud) Kittlesby. Evelyn attended rural country schools and graduated from Calmar High School in 1925; received her BA from the University of Iowa in 1932; and her MA from the University of Minnesota in 1953. Evelyn began her teaching career teaching in country schools near Calmar and Ossian, Iowa. She taught in Buffalo Center, IA; Davenport, IA and then to Chicago, IL for nineteen years. She returned to Calmar, and taught at South Winn, retiring in 1972. Evelyn was a member of the Calmar Lutheran Church, Delta Kappa Gamma in Illinois, AARP, Sons of Norway, and the Illinois Retired Teachers.
Evelyn’s survivors include her two nephews: Bill Creeden, Cedar Falls, Iowa and Dr. Paul (Julie) Creeden, Cedar Falls, IA. One niece: Mary Ann Creeden Portis, Robstown, TX. One great nephew: Thomas Creeden and one great niece: Margaret Creeden.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents: Sigvart and Clara Kittlesby. One brother: Paul A. Kittlesby in 1985; and one sister: H. Kathryn Creeden Nelson in 2000. One niece: Connie Creeden Moore in 1996.
