Ruth Pauline Keune, age 83, of Fort Atkinson, Iowa, died on Thursday, December 03, 2009, at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, December 7, 2009, at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah, Iowa, with Rev. Glen Smith, presiding. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Fort Atkinson, Iowa.

Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, Chekal Chapel in Fort Atkinson, Iowa, and after 12:30 p.m. at the nursing home on Monday afternoon.

Ruth Pauline (Anderson) Keune was born on September 23, 1926, in Decorah, Iowa, the daughter of Gilbert O. and Luella (Jaastad) Anderson. Pauline attended rural country school and Decorah Community Schools and was confirmed at Decorah Lutheran Church. She married Kenneth Keune on December 21, 1945, in Waukon, Iowa. Pauline was a homemaker and kept busy raising her five children as well as keeping books for Keune Tiling and Trenching for many years. Pauline decorated cakes, enjoyed making lefse, bread, donuts, popcorn balls and cookies. She also loved to make quilts and over the years, made Quiet Books for many children. Pauline was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and Ladies Aide in Calmar, Iowa.

Pauline’s survivors include her daughter: Penny (Jamie) Johnson, Sumner, IA. Four sons: Gary (Susan) Keune, Marion, IA; Mike (Bonnie) Keune, Little Turkey, IA; Alan (Holly) Keune, Little Rock, AR and Kenneth “Buck” (Susan) Keune, Decorah, IA. Thirteen grandchildren: Chad (Leslie) Keune, Chalise (Greg) Reininga, Adam Keune, Andrew Keune, Caleb (Nancy) Keune, Marshal Keune, Lynnette Keune, Janelle Keune, Lucas Keune, Annelise Keune, Toni (Troy) Cutsforth, Jessica (Derick) Jurgensen, Jacqueline (Brett) Powers. Two step-grandchildren: Evan and Keri Johnson. Eleven great grandchildren: Ella Keune, Jackson, Maegen, Abigail & Emersen Reininga, Maggie, Evelyn & Quinn Keune, Cole & Hunter Jurgensen and Spencer Powers. Four sisters: Almeda (Robert) Grindland, Seattle, WA; Beverly (Carsten) Steen, Waterloo, IA; Frances (Emil) Frana, Decorah, IA and Katherine Holten, Cedar Rapids, IA. Two brothers: Gordon (Marian) Anderson, Decorah, IA and Donald (Anita) Anderson, Cedar Rapids, IA. Two sisters-in-law: Mary (T.J.) Stepon, Nashua, IA and Glenda Keune, Chester, MT.

Ruth Pauline was preceded in death by parents: Gilbert and Luella (Jaastad) Anderson. Her husband: Kenneth in 1994. One grandson: Mark Keune. Three sisters and their husbands: Irene and Gary Groth, Loretta and Marcelline Phillips and Clara and Leon Williams. One brother and his wife: Herman and Lois Anderson. Three brothers-in-law: Eldon Holten, Roger & Charles Keune.
