John E. Jennerjohn, age 81, of Bonita Springs, Florida, and formerly of Decorah, IA, passed away Friday, October 31, 2008 at Imperial Health Center in Naples, FL.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, November 15, 2008 at Decorah Lutheran Church with Rev. Tom Pietz and Rev. Allen Vik officiating. Inurnment will be in Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah with full military honors.

Friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. Friday, November 14 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and an hour prior to the services on Saturday at the church. John Edward Jennerjohn was born March 23, 1927 in Dundee, Iowa, the son of Edward and Opal (Heyer) Jennerjohn. He graduated from McGregor High School. John was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid. Following the war, John attended Luther College and graduated in 1949 with a degree in Business Administration.

He was united in marriage to Gladys Blekeberg on August 23, 1950 at Decorah Lutheran Church in Decorah, IA.

After his graduation, he worked in insurance and then purchased the Mail Me Monday bookkeeping service in Decorah. In 1963, John purchased a drilling business and operated Jennerjohn & Holthaus Drilling Inc. for over 25 years. In 1977, he started farming on the family farm near Dundee, Evergreen Hill Farm, and continued until the time of his death. John and his wife, Gladys have been wintering in Bonita Springs, FL since 1987. They are members of Spanish Wells Country Club in Bonita Springs, Christus Victor Lutheran Church in Bonita Springs and Decorah Lutheran Church. He enjoyed golf, fishing, investing and was a loyal Iowa Hawkeye fan.

John is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Gladys; his sons, Paul E. (Rhonda) Jennerjohn of Seattle, WA and Philip K. (Noelle) Jennerjohn of Green Bay, WI; his sister, Erma Mae Baumgartner of Bonita Springs, FL; and grandchildren, Anna, Lauren and Joshua.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother-in-law, Ronald Baumgartner, and a nephew, Rodney Baumgartner. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to ELCA World Hunger Appeal, P.O Box 71764, Chicago, IL 60694-1764.
