Ethel I. Iverson, age 84, of Decorah, Iowa, died Sunday, August 30, 2009 at Aase Haugen Home in Decorah following a short illness.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, September 4, 2009 at Hauge Lutheran Church in rural Decorah by Rev. Nancy Solomonson with inurnment in the church cemetery.

Visitation is from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. Friday, September 4 at Hauge Lutheran Church. Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah is handling the arrangements.

Ethel Irene Iverson was born at home on the family farm in Canoe Township, in rural Decorah, Iowa, on September 4, 1924, the daughter of Knut and Clara (Selness) Iverson. She was baptized September 28, 1924 and confirmed November 13, 1938 at Hauge Lutheran Church. Ethel attended the Knoke School in Canoe Township and graduated from Decorah High School with the Class of 1943.

Ethel worked at The Rubber Co. in LaCrosse, WI, making shoes and boots. She then moved to Minneapolis, MN with her sister Charlotte and they lived there together for many years. Ethel worked in downtown Minneapolis for a clothing manufacturer as a seamstress and retired in 1980. She was a member of Central Lutheran Church in Minneapolis for many years and she sang in the Norwegian Ladies Choir. She liked to read, especially the Bible, and to follow the news. She enjoyed her family history and genealogy, all of her nieces and nephews, and writing to them letters and cards. Ethel and Charlotte liked to go out for dinner, enjoyed ballroom dancing and were members of the YWCA. She was preceded in death by her mother, Clara on February 12, 1941; her father, Knut on April 1, 1956; her two sisters, Charlotte Iverson on February 22, 1989 and Ingrie Iverson on December 15, 2008; and her brother, Lester Iverson, on March 20, 1991.

Ethel is survived by one sister, Ruth Sherry of Spring Grove, MN; four nieces, three nephews and numerous grandnieces and –nephews.

Memorials may be given to Hauge Lutheran Church.
