Helen E. Hedemann, age 81, of Decorah, Iowa, died Sunday, June 4, 2006 at Barthell Eastern Star Home in Decorah following a long illness.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, June 9, 2006 at First Lutheran Church in Decorah by Rev. Marion Pruitt Miller with burial in Lutheran Cemetery, Decorah.

Friends may call from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Thursday, June 8, 2006 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and after 10:00 A.M. Friday at the church.

Helen Emma Hedemann was born August 2, 1924 in Elkader, Iowa, the daughter of Herman and Alma (Maker) Miller. She graduated from Elkader High School with the Class of 1942.

She was united in marriage with Grover C. Hedemann on April 9, 1944 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Garnavillo, Iowa. To this union, three children were born: Marcia, James and Jane.

Helen worked at Hale’s in Decorah for many years until her retirement. She worked hard supporting Grover in his work and activities as principal for Decorah High School. The two of them enjoyed entertaining and traveling.

Helen was a member of First Lutheran Church in Decorah where she served on Church Council, taught Sunday school, bible school and belonged to church circle. She enjoyed needlework, golfing and was very involved in all of her family’s activities.

Helen became a resident of the Barthell Eastern Star Home in Decorah on February 10, 2006. She died at the home on Sunday, June 4, 2006 at the age of 81 years, following a long illness.

Survivors include three children, Marcia (Ronald) Stoskopf of Decorah, James L. Hedemann of Baraboo, WI and Jane (Leonard Jr. “Lenny”) Graves of Decorah; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, Michelle (Douglas) D’Aigle and their children Morghan, Garrett and Kelsey of Cambridge, MN; Jamie Brescia and her daughter Jenna of Baraboo, WI; and Kristin (Jon) Marking and their children Taylor, Mitchel and Keagan of Baraboo, WI; a brother, Marvin (Mildred) Miller of Dubuque, IA; and a brother-in-law, Darrell (Joyce) Hedemann of Monona, IA.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Grover on May 7, 2000; a grandson, Brent Stoskopf on January 23, 1988 and three brothers, Harvey, Lawrence and Delbert Miller.
