William J. (Bill) Headington, age 79, of Decorah, IA, died Saturday, August 23, 2008 at his home in Decorah following a lengthy illness.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at First Lutheran Church in Decorah with burial in Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah.

Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 26 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and one hour before services at the church on Wednesday.

William John “Bill” Headington was born April 11, 1929 in Decorah, Iowa, the son of Glen and Anna (Grindeland) Headington. He was baptized and confirmed at Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church, rural Decorah. Bill graduated from Decorah High School with the class of 1948. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953 during the Korean War.

Bill was united in marriage with Elaine Fjelstul on February 8, 1953 in Lincoln Lutheran Church, Ridgeway, IA. This union was blessed with four daughters: Maggie, Marilyn, Marcia, and Marlene.

Bill worked at Rath Packing in Waterloo, farmed in the Decorah area, and worked for Surge, Skelgas, and was a Real Estate Broker in Decorah: first for Dave Kelly Realty and then started his own real estate agency. After his retirement, Bill worked part-time at Decorah Furniture.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Anna Headington; and one brother, Duane “Bud” Headington.

Bill is survived by his wife, Elaine of Decorah; his four daughters: Maggie (Ron) Challis of Tipton, IA, Marilyn (Rhett) Bush of Byron, MN, Marcia (Keith) Cannon of Elma, IA, and Marlene (Dan) Hills of Cedar Falls, IA; twelve grandchildren: Melissa (Josh) Gilliam, Kelly Tieskotter, Jordan and Jessica Challis, Eric (Shianne) Bush, Aaron Bush, Heather (Dave) Christensen, Stephanie Cannon, Shari (Emmitt) Reed, Ellen, Jenny and Megan Hills; eight great-grandchildren: Jared and Jacob Gilliam, Montana, Erianne, and Graison Bush, Kalvin and Tylar Christensen, Savannah Reed; two brothers: Dale (Sandy) Headington of Decorah, IA and Robert (Joyce) Headington of Waukon, IA; and by one sister-in-law, Bonnie Headington of Waterloo, IA.
