Milo J. Headington, age 88, of Decorah, Iowa, died Monday, April 6, 2009 at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 11, 2009 at Burr Oak Lutheran Church in Burr Oak, IA by Rev. Matt Larson with burial in Phelps Cemetery in Decorah.

Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. Friday, April 10 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah, and on Saturday one hour before the service at the church.

Milo Jerome Headington was born May 31, 1920, at home in rural Freeport, IA, the son of James Allen and Pheobe Amalia (Sorenson) Headington. He attended school in Freeport through the eighth grade.

He was united in marriage to Florence M. Tollefsrud on October 29, 1950 at Big Canoe Lutheran Church in rural Decorah, Iowa. This union was blessed with four children, Larry, Steve, Marilyn and Rosalyn.

Milo farmed in Glenwood and Hesper Townships of Winneshiek County for many years and then retired to Freeport. He ushered for many years at Decorah Lutheran Church, Mabel First Lutheran Church and Burr Oak Lutheran Church for a total of 27 years, and he served on the church council of all three churches. He enjoyed going to horse sales, livestock sales, and farm auctions. He loved horses and buying and selling them. He also enjoyed visiting with people and playing cards.

He moved into Wellington Place in Freeport on January 29, 2007.

He was preceded in death by his father, James, in 1966 and his mother, Pheobe, in 2001; his brother, James Benjamin Headington; and four sisters: Nora Sharp, Maythel Headington, Phoebe Hensel and Gayle Hartley.

Milo is survived by his wife, Florence of Decorah; his two sons, Larry (Dianne) Headington of Decorah and Steve Headington of Ossian, IA; his two daughters, Marilyn Headington of Calmar, IA and Rosalyn (Rusty) Samuelson of Decorah; ten grandchildren: Nicole (Jimmie) Tatum, Mark (Amanda) Headington, Paul Haugen, Lance Haugen, Kylene Haugen, Cory Selig, Rachel Selig, Laura Selig, and Reece and Riley Samuelson; and three great-grandchildren: Kaid Headington, Timothy Tatum and Aubrie Tatum.
