Clyde Quandahl

Clyde L. Quandahl, 79, of Decorah, died Monday, May 26, 2003 at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital following a short illness.

Funeral services were held

Friday, May 30 at 11 a.m., at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Locust, with Rev. John Mayer officiating.

Alan Sensor was organist, Nicolette Kakos was soloist and Rev. John Mayer was violinist.

Song selections included "On Eagle’s Wings" and "The Lord’s Prayer."

Congregational hymns were "Here I Am, Lord," "How Great Thou Art" and "Just a Closer Walk with Thee."

Casketbearers were Tom Price, Mike Wold, Jeff Marlow, Mike Carolan, Joe Carolan and Gary Holstad.

Honorary Casketbearers were Arnie and Julie Weiss, Kathryn and Julie Erickson and all of Clyde Quandahl’s grandchildren.

Interment was in Springwater Cemetery, Decorah. Schluter-Balik Funeral Home of Decorah handled arrangements.

Clyde Ludwig Quandahl was born May 25, 1924 the son of Ludwig and Addie (Brandt) Quandahl on the family farm on the Middle Hesper Road.

He attended country school and farmed the family farm west of Burr Oak.

He also worked at Bruening Rock Products and Wapsie Produce.

He married Edna Knoke Jan. 12, 1946.

Clyde Quandahl farmed north of the Hauge Lutheran Church from 1947 to 1969, where he started his registered Brown Swiss dairy herd.

He continued to increase his herd until he had an all registered herd, when he moved to the Springwater farm in 1969.

He continued with his cattle until he retired from milking in 1977.

After the death of his first wife in 1983, Clyde Quandahl married Alverta "Bootie" (Rhines) Carolan Oct. 18, 1985.

He was a member of the Hauge Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife, Alverta "Bootie" Quandahl, Decorah; two sons: Jerald Quandahl and wife Becky, Corinth, Texas and Mark Quandahl and wife Marilyn, Decorah; seven step-children: Michael Carolan, Decorah; Kim Holstad and husband Gary, Decorah; Lisa Carolan, Mesa, Ariz.; Dawn Marlow and husband Jeff, Decorah; Joe Carolan, Mabel, Minn.; Theresa Stalcup and husband Tony, Bagdad, Ariz.; Tammy Wold and husband Mike, Decorah. 17 grandchildren; one brother: Howard Quandahl and wife Arlene, Stoughton, Wis.; two sisters-in-law: Ethel Quandahl and Doris Carolan, Decorah;.two brothers-in-law, Lyle Knoke and wife Donna, Decorah and Eddie Knoke, Rochester, Minn., and several nieces and nephews.

Clyde Quandahl was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Edna Quandahl in 1983; one infant daughter: Jean in 1947; one grandson: Thomas Quandahl in 2001; one brother: Allan Quandahl; three sisters: Lena Davis, Lillie Foltz and Ida Noecker; half-brother, Lloyd and half-sister: Florence.
