Funeral services were held Thursday, February 12, 1970, for Sara N. Quandahl, who died Monday afternoon, February 9, at the Decorah Retirement Center. Mrs. Quandahl had been a resident of the Center snce the fall of 1967.

Final rites were conducted by Pastor John M. Ness at First Lutheran Church in Decorah, where Mrs. Quandahl had been a member for over a half a century.

Pallbearers were Charles Quandahl, Harold Quandahl, Merlin Sharp, John Sharp, Donald Steffans and Gerald McCormick. Soloist was Shirley Gangstad of Northwood, Iowa, and Mrs. William Kuhlmann was the organist. Burial was in the Springwater Lutheran Cemetery in Canoe Township.

Mrs. Quandahl was born Sara Nesheim in Canoe Township, Winneshiek County, Iowa, on November 24, 1879, the daughter of John O and Andrine Johnson Nesheim, natives of Hardanger and Kongsvinger, Norway. She lived her life in the vicinity of Decorah.

Mrs. Quandahl attended rural schools in the area and later completed a normal training course at Valders Normal College in Decorah in 1900.

On April 8, 1903, after teaching school for some time, Sara Nesheim was united in marriage to John Severin Quandahl, a native of Hardanger, Norway. The marriage was performed at Big Canoe Lutheran Church , where Mrs. Quandahl had been confirmed in 1894.

Mr. and Mrs. Quandahl were the parents of four children, three of whom survive their mother. They are Walter Quandahl, Hazel (Mrs. Lloyd Sharp), and Irene (Mrs. Albert Richards), all of Decorah.

Mrs. Quandahl was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, who died in 1925, and a son, Raymond, who died in 1950. Also preceding their sister in death were six brothers and four sisters.

Surviving are two brothers, Herbert Nesheim, of Bard, California, and Wilhelm (Will) Nesheim, of Lewiston, Idaho. Other survivors include nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Sara Quandahl was a member of First Lutheran Church, and the ALCW, and was active in the VFW Women's Auxiliary and the Women's Relief Corps.

Arrangements were made by Steine's Funeral Home.
