Charles R. Brown

Funeral services were conducted Friday, January 25 at 1;30 p.m. at Schutte Funeral Home, Postville, for Charles R. Brown who died January 23, at Veteran's Memorial Hospital, Waukon.

Charles R. Brown, son of Rufus and Mary (Vaughn) Brown, was born September 6, 1892 at Arcadia, Nebraska. His parents moved to the Waterville, Iowa area in 1900.

On June 29, 1927 he was united in marriage with Orpha O. Thias. They farmed near Waterville-Monona area until 1937 when they moved to Castalia,where he was in business.

In 1951 they moved to a farm near Waukon, retiring in 1970 and moving to Harpers Ferry.

They became parents of 3 children, Mrs. Arthur (Mary) Svendsen) of Castalia, and Mrs. Charles (Kay) Grant) of Fairbault, Minnesota, and a son Charles William.

He was preceded in death by his son Charles William, a brother Roy and two sisters, Ethel (Mrs. Harmey Russell) and Rilla (Mrs. Frank Mielke).

Survivors include his wife, two daughters, 12 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, a sister, Agnes (Mrs. Jerry Hawkins) of Waterville and four brothers, William and Darwin of Waterville, Wray of Davenport and Bruce of Blencoe and his daughter-in-law, Virginia Brown of Castalia.

Mr. Brown was a veteran of World War I, a member of the V.F.W. in Postville, and a member of the Harpers Ferry Senior Citizens.

Interment was in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Castalia, Iowa.
