Marcella Hayek 86, of Spillville, IA. died Wednesday October 4, 2006 at the Winneshiek County Medical Center in Decorah, IA. after a short illness.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday October 9, 2006 at 11 a.m. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville with Rev. Donald Hawes officiating, Burial in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be on Sunday Oct. 8, 2006 at the Balik Funeral Home in Spillville from 3:00 to 8:00 with a scripture service at 4:00 and a rosary at 5:00 and visitation after 10:00 at the church on Monday.

Marcella Mary (Andera) Hayek was born February 23, 1920 to Albert and Frances (Humpal) Andera on a farm west of Spillville. Marcella attended St. Wenceslaus School in Spillville and married Edward Hayek February 23, 1943 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville. Marcella and Edward farmed west of Fort Atkinson for 40 years before moving to Spillville in 1983.

Marcella was very involved in church activities. She was known for the excellent food she provided for events and the family especially enjoyed her culinary skills. Marcella tended a very large garden and was expert as growing huge crops of strawberries. Marcella also enjoyed accompanying Ed fishing in nearby rivers and in later years trips to Marquette to test their luck.

Survivors include two sons: Ed Hayek and wife Marlene of Cedar Rapids, IA and Dan Hayek and wife Marleen of Ft. Atkinson, IA. One daughter: Betty Barnhill and husband Charles of Madison, WI; Eleven grandchildren: Anne Marie (Dave) Evans, Mary Kay (Doug) Watry, Eric Barnhill, Colin Barnhill, Michael (Susan) Hayek, Nicole Hayek, Steve, Erica, Shane and Brandon Dahl and Steven Burke. Two great grandchildren: Isabel and Siena Evans. One sister: Mary (James) Soukup of Decorah and three brothers: Matt (Darlene) Andera of Spillville, William (Mary Ann) Andera of Protivin and Larry Andera of Decorah. four sisters-in-law: Helen Andera of Ossian, IA., Grace Andera of Cresco, IA., Doris Andera of Ft. Atkinson, IA. and Janet Andera of Cresco, IA.

Marcella Hayek was preceded in death by her husband Edward; her parents, two grandsons; Phillip Hayek and Casey Barnhill, two sisters: Adella Andera and Frances Hageman and six brothers: Cyril in infancy, Edward, Albert, Louis, Frank and Robert Andera.
