Anna G Jaastad, Pioneer Resident, Dies at Age 101

Miss Anna G Jaastad, one of the oldest residents of the county, died August 20 at the Aase Haugen Home at the age of 101. Miss Jaastad was born in Winneshiek County, and except for five years when she resided in Seattle, Wash. had lived here most of her life. She made her home with the Gerhard Haugens in rural Decorah for several years and had been employed as a housekeeper.

Pastor Alden Hovda conducted funeral services for Miss Jaastad Friday, Aug. 23 at Decorah Lutheran Church and burial in Springwater Cemetery. Pallbearers were Clifford Vine, Howard Smith, Harry Haugen, Harold Erickson, Chester Erickson and Orville Johnson. Mrs. Otto Ruen was organist and accompanied the congregation as they sung hymns. Arrangements were made by Steine Funeral Home.

Miss Jaastad was born April 15, 1873 in Canoe Township, the daughter of Gunder and Juri Jaastad. She attended rural schools in Springfield Township.

She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and one sister.
