Oscar J. Erickson Funeral Services Held Saturday

Funeral services for Oscar J. Erickson, 84, Decorah, will be held Saturday, Aug. 26. at 2 p.m. in Decorah Lutheran Church.

Mr. Erickson died Wednesday, Aug. 23, at Smith Memorial Hospital.

Rev. Allen Neslon will conduct the services. Burial will be in the Springwater Cemetery with Steine Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Body will lie in state at the church from 12:30 until the time of the services.

Pallbearers for the service are Alan Erickson, Harlan Erickson, David Roher, Lester Hjelmeland, Gary Barth and Glendon Barth. Organist for the service will be Mrs. Otto Ruen.

The son of Hans and Julia Erickson, he was born in Winneshiek County on Sept. 5, 1882. He attended rural schools in the county.

On Oct. 13, 1908, he was married with Marie Sorenson at Decorah. Mrs. Erickson died in 1936.

Erickson had lived his entire life in Winneshiek County and at the Aase Haugen home since March of this year.

He is survived by seven children; Chester, Mrs. Robert (Edith) Hjelmeland, Harold, Mrs. Leona Roher, Mrs. Grant (Vivian) Barth, and Arthur, all of Decorah; and Wallace of Clarksburg, W.Va.

Other survivors include a brother, Stanton, Decorah; and two sisters, Mrs. Theodore Narveson and Mrs. Selmer Larson, both of Decorah; 22 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son, Merlen, four brothers, four sisters, one grandchild, and one great-grandchild.
