Nora Guttebo, age 98, of Decorah, Iowa, died on Monday, August 31, 2009, at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home, in Decorah, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2009, at the Washington Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, Iowa, with Rev. Mark Kvale presiding. Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, prior to the time of services in the Washington Prairie Cemetery, Decorah, Iowa.

Friends may call from 3:00-6:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah.

Nora H. (Mikelson) Guttebo was born on December 20, 1910, the daughter of Knut and Anna (Gullickson) Mikelson in Pleasant Township, Winneshiek County, Iowa. Nora was baptized at home on February 19, 1911, and confirmed at the Big Canoe Lutheran Church, on May 17, 1925. She received her education at Pleasant Township #2 country school and worked as a hired girl doing housework, cleaning, cooking and taking care of children for prominent Decorah area families. On August 30, 1934, Nora married Levi Guttebo, at the Big Canoe Lutheran Church. Together they farmed in Springfield Township until 1964, when they moved into Decorah. Nora operated the East End Café & Lunch for four years, where she was known for her cinnamon rolls and pies. She then cooked for Gladys Usgaard at the Springer Café until it closed. Nora then went to work at Rambo Pharmacy, enjoying all she met and worked with, until she retired in the late 1980’s. Nora enjoyed working on the farm and always had an enormous garden. She had a sense of humor, which carried her and her family through the ups and downs of life. Nora was an active member of the Washington Prairie Lutheran Church, the Rachel Circle, the Luren Ladies Auxiliary.

Nora’s survivors include her daughter: Rose Ann (Rick) Pridie, Sioux City, IA, and her son: Les (Karen) Guttebo, Decorah, IA. Five grandchildren: Kay (Aleem) Hussain, Orlando, FL; Kent (Jeri) Guttebo, Indian Harbor Beach, FL; Kristin (Nathan) Cornelius, Springfield, MO; Andrew (Gena) Christofferson, Tekamah, NE and Michael (Sarah) Christofferson, Seattle, WA. Nine great grandchildren: Jordyn & Amber Hussain; Elijah, Jayden & Ryan Cornelius; Jami Wachhorn, Michaela O’Neil, Trinity & Nixon Christofferson. One sister: Jeanette Naley, Decorah, IA.

Nora was preceded in death by her parents: Knut & Anna (Gullickson) Mikelson. Her husband: Levi Guttebo on June 19, 1995. One sister: Myrtle Forde in 1976. Two brothers-in-law: Merlin Naley in 1965 and Lewis Forde in 1959.
