Howard L. Gullickson, age 79, of Decorah, Iowa, died on Friday, September 19, 2008 at Aase Haugen Home in Decorah of cancer.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, September 22, 2008 at Burr Oak Lutheran Church in Burr Oak, Iowa by Rev. Matt Larson with burial in Burr Oak Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2:00 – 6:00 PM on Sunday, September 21 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and one hour before the service at the church on Monday.

Howard Lester Gullickson was born January 22, 1929 in Winneshiek County, Decorah, IA, the son of Adolph and Ida (Holien) Gullickson. He was baptized and confirmed at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, IA. Howard graduated from Decorah High School with the class of 1947.

He was united in marriage to Hazel Rosendahl on February 12, 1950 at Burr Oak Lutheran Church. This union was blessed with four children: Connie, Duane, Daryl, and Dennis.

Howard and Hazel farmed near Burr Oak. Howard was an avid Cubs fan, and enjoyed all Iowa Hawkeye sports, fishing, and John Deere tractors. His family was most precious to him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Ida Gullickson; son, Dennis in 1954 at the age of 3 ½ months; one sister, Sadie Heins; three brothers: Glen, Walter and Norman Gullickson; four brothers-in-law: Elmer Heins, Gordon Arness, Charles Rosendahl and Merlin Rosendahl; one sister-in-law, Martha Rosendahl; and his mother-and father-in-law, Gilbert and Pearl Rosendahl.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel of Decorah, IA; two sons, Darryl (Cheri) Gullickson of Loretto, MN and Duane (Stacey) Gullickson of Plymouth, MN; one daughter, Connie (Steve) Schmitt of Hawkeye, IA; nine grandchildren: Amber (Keith) Luckeroth, Kyia Gullickson, Alyssa Gullickson, Lindsey Gullickson, Hannah Gullickson, Emily Schmitt, Amy Schmitt, Lucas Schmitt, Molly Schmitt; one sister, Dorothy Arness of Minneapolis, MN; three sisters-in-law, Mabel (Gullickson) Molokken, Helen (Gullickson) Storch and Elsie Rosendahl of Decorah; and by many nieces and nephews.
