Brandt Rites Held

Walter H. Brandt was born June 20, 1886, in Clayton county. He was the son of William and Marie (Block) Brandt and was one of a family of 8 children, who took up residence here in 1892 on the farm which is still the Brandt property, one mile west of Frankville. He received his early education in the rural schools of Winneshiek county which he later completed at Valders Business college in Decorah

He was married to Miss Hazel Padrick at Bruce, Wisconsin and they took up residence on the Brandt farm here. They are the parents of 3 children, Wesley, Wayne and Beverly, all of Frankville.

He was engaged in farming all his life and had a deep interest in this community which he attempted to serve in many ways. He was a director of the former Frankville bank, a member of the rural school board for many years. He also encouraged the merits of soil conservation throughout this locality. He was a member of the Frankville Community Church where he served as a trustee for many years.

He died during the Church Worship hour and services on Sunday, May 5, during the singing of the anthem by the choir. He was 70 years, 10 months and 15 days of age.

Walter Brandt is survived by his wife, 2 sons and a daughter, Wesley and Wayne, and Beverly (Mrs. Roland Peck); 2 sisters, Mrs. Ray Birdsell (Cora) and Mrs. E. R. Birdsell (Margaret). Nine grandchildren also survive as follows: Lu Ann and Judy Peck, Karen, Karlene and Konnie Brandt, and Lowell, Loren, JoAnn and Janice Brandt.

His parents, one brother and 4 sisters preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, May 8, the Rev. Alden Showalter officiating at the Frankville Community Church.

Those attending from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. Lester Davis, Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Brainard of Bruce, Wisconsin; Mr. and Mrs. B. Davis and family of Klemme; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kaezmarski, Mrs. Ervin Torgeson of Pettibone, North Dakota; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Minges of Owatonna, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. Wilton Sinning of Corning, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Mundt of Waterloo, and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Huffy of Caledonia, Minnesota.

Walter Brandt passed away suddenly following a heart attack during church services here Sunday morning. The services were immediately concluded and the usual arrangements were made to notify the family. He is survived by his wife, the former Hazel Gordon, 2 sons, Wesley and Wayne, and one daughter, (Beverly) Mrs. Roland Peck, all of this community. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Community Church in Frankville, following a short service at Schutte's Funeral home in Postville.
