Walter John Brandt
Funeral services for Walter Brandt, 85, were held Thursday, Aug. 2, 1984 at 2 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia. The Rev. H. W. Wolfgram officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Pleasant View Cemetery.
Walter John Brandt, son of John and Emma (Schroeder) Brandt, was born May 5, 1899 north of Postville. He died Tuesday, July 31, 1984 at the Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian.
Walter was baptized July 2, 1899 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville and was confirmed at the Castalia Lutheran Church March 30, 1913 by Rev. A. E. Guetzlaff.
He attended the Henderson Prairie School south of Postville. He left this area and lived in North Dakota for a few years and also lived and worked in Minneapolis for a short time.
He was married to Annetta Huisinga Dec. 21, 1925 at St. Paul, MN. They returned to the Castalia area where they farmed most of their lives. They were the parents of two sons, Robert and Lloyd. When they retired they moved to Castalia. For the past 10 months Walter had been a resident of the Ossian Senior Hospice.
He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia, served on the Church Council, was a member of the Bloomfield Township Historical Society and the KEWs in Castalia.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Oran; and 2 sisters, Hattie (Mrs. Earl Bachelder) and Irene (Mrs. Archie Ostlie).
Surviving are his wife, Annetta, 2 sons, Robert of Ossian and Lloyd of Belvidere, Ill., 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
