Genevieve Dvorak, age 87, of Decorah, Iowa, died on Thursday, March 22, 2007, at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah, Iowa, following a lingering illness.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2007 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, Iowa, with Rev. Donald Hawes officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, in Decorah and after 10:00 a.m. at the church in Spillville on Saturday morning. There will be a rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a scripture service at 5:00 on Friday.
Genevieve (Hovden) Dvorak was born on April 9, 1919, the daughter of Carl and Alida (Knutson) Hovden in Ridgeway, Iowa. Genevieve attended the Madison country school. She married Leonard Dvorak on March 19, 1940. Genevieve liked helping other people by giving them rides and looking after them. She enjoyed socializing, playing cards, cooking and especially her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Elks Lodge in Decorah.
Genevieve’s survivors include her daughter: Diane Juve, Decorah, IA and one son: David (Carol) Dvorak, Ridgeway, IA. One brother: Carsten Hovden, Decorah, IA. Five grandchildren: Chris (Mindy) Dvorak, Ridgeway, IA; Jilaine (Romel) Reynon, Chicago, IL; Kail (Kelly) Dvorak, Holman, WI; Denise (Jason) Owens, Minneapolis, MN and Darrin (Tanya) Juve, Minneapolis, MN. Eight grandchildren: Samuel & Breanna Dvorak; Alexis Dvorak; Jackson, Marcus and Kennedy Owens; Taylor and Regan Juve. One brother: Carsten (special friend, Shirley Courtney) Hovden, Decorah, IA.
Genevieve was preceded in death by her husband: Leonard; her parents. One son-in-law: Dennis Juve. Two brothers: John and Joy Hovden.
