Evelyn Bullerman, age 91, of Decorah, Iowa, died Monday, September 22, 2008, at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah, Iowa, following a lingering illness.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 26, 2008, at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Decorah, Iowa with Rev. Phillip Gibbs officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call on Thursday afternoon from 3:00-7:00 p.m. and on Friday morning until 10:00 a.m. at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah, Iowa. There will be a rosary at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Evelyn Marie (Meyer) Bullerman was born on April 4, 1917, the daughter of Adam and Cecelia (Bodensteiner) Meyer on the family farm near Ossian, IA. Evelyn attended St. Francis DeSales Catholic School in Ossian and helped on the family farm. Evelyn taught herself to play the guitar and she and her brother, Alois, sang on the radio and for barn dances. Evelyn loved music, dancing and tap dancing. She lived in LaCrosse and worked at St. Francis Hospital as a young lady. Evelyn married Edwin Bullerman on Sept. 13, 1938 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar. Together they farmed south of Calmar, until 1957, when the moved to the farm on Townline Road. They farmed there, until 1974, when they moved into Decorah. Evelyn also worked for ten years at the County Home in Decorah. Evelyn was an excellent cook and baker, and enjoyed taking care of her family. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, sewing, quilting and taking bus trips with the Sun Rise Club. Her greatest joy was her family, grand and great grandchildren. Evelyn entered the Aase Haugen Nursing Home on June 20, 2008. Evelyn was a member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church.
Evelyn’s survivors include her two daughters: Nancy Chapman, Marion, IA and Joan (Jim) Brace, Winthrop, IA. Four sons: Roger (Pat) Bullerman, Cliff (Joyce A.) Bullerman, and Linus Bullerman, all of Decorah, IA and Arlo Bullerman, East Troy, WI. Daughter-in-law: Carol Bullerman, Burr Oak, IA. Eleven grandchildren: William (Lisa) Bullerman, Brian Bullerman, Robert (Sara) Bullerman; Tom (Trina) Bullerman, Joyce Bullerman, Steve (Barb) Bullerman, Nicole (Bill) Remington, Brenda Bullerman; Robyn (Matt) Chapman Morris, Scott Bullerman and Angie (Guy) Metz. Thirteen great grandchildren: Chelsea & Ryan Bullerman; Carson & Mick Bullerman; Justin, Tyler and Karlee Bullerman; Scott & A.J. Bullerman; Kanan & Kolby Morris; Rylee Metz and Grant Remington. One brother: Arnold (Jeanne) Meyer, Calmar, IA. Two sisters-in-law: Maggie Numedahl, Decorah, IA and Leona Larson, Austin, MN.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents: Adam and Cecelia Meyer. Husband: Edwin Bullerman on April 25, 1994. Son: Gerald Bullerman on April 10, 2004. Granddaughter: Lori Ann Bullerman on Sept. 30, 1972. One son-in-law: Robert W. Chapman in 1996. One sister: Irene (Edwin) Einck. Two brothers: Raymond (Josephine) Meyer & Alois (Julitta) Meyer. Three sisters-in-law: Irene (Julius) Hageman, Frances (Andrew) Timp & Bernadine (Rudy) Schrandt. Three brothers-in-law: Adolph (Winifred) Bullerman, Ray Numedahl, and Myrle Larson.
