Robert V. Borsheim, age 55, of Decorah, IA, died Saturday, February 26, 2011 at home in Decorah after a long and courageous three year battle with cancer.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at First Lutheran Church in Decorah with Rev. Marion Pruitt-Jefferson and Rev. Harris Hostager officiating. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah in the spring of 2011.
Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 1 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and on Wednesday one hour before the service at the church.
Robert Verl Borsheim was born September 18, 1955 in Decorah, Iowa, the son of Verl and Jettie (Van Brocklin) Borsheim. He was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church in Decorah. Bob attended Decorah Community Schools and graduated from Decorah High School with the Class of 1974.
Bob was united in marriage to Judy Kuhn on April 23, 1977 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, Iowa. This union was blessed with two children: Heather and Rory.
He worked at Rilling Motors in high school and Borsheim & Son Auto Salvage for many years, which he owned and operated with his father Verl. He then worked at Iowa Rotocast Plastics and most recently at Decorah Auto Center. Bob enjoyed going to Upper Iowa Speedway to watch the local races, and he especially liked watching his son, Rory, race. He also enjoyed working with cars, watching all sports, the outdoors and wildlife, feeding the birds and fishing. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and his three very special grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his wife Judy Borsheim; his daughter, Heather (Drew) Batterson; his son, Rory (Lynnette) Borsheim, all of Decorah; three grandchildren: Kyleigh and Braedyn Batterson and Dahlynne Borsheim; four sisters: Vickie (Lewis) Olson, Rita (Gerald) McConnell, Terry (Steve) Falck all of Decorah, IA and Ginger (Tony) Johanningmeier of Des Moines, IA; his mother-in-law Adella Kuhn of Spillville, IA; one brother-in-law Dave (Lora) Kuhn of Anamosa, IA; two sisters-in-law: Sue (Rick) Rusk of Afton, IA and Mary (Gary) Lukes of Decorah; and by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his father Verl on April 11, 1998, his mother Jettie on November 5, 2009, his father-in-law Francis Kuhn on January 20, 2002, and his grandparents: Elmer and Lucille Van Brocklin and Elmer and Gladys Borsheim.
