Jettie D. Borsheim, age 77, of Decorah, IA, died Thursday, November 5, 2009 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, MN.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, November 9, 2009 at First Lutheran Church in Decorah by Rev. Marion Pruitt-Jefferson with burial in Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah.
Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Sunday, November 8 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and on Monday one hour before the service at the church.
Jettie Darlene (Van Brocklin) Borsheim was born on May 26, 1932, the daughter of Elmer and Lucille (Lang) Van Brocklin in Allamakee County, Iowa. Jettie attended elementary school and was elated to get her GED on June 2, 1992.
Jettie married Verl R. Borsheim on December 27, 1949 in Decorah, Iowa. This union was blessed with five children: Vickie, Rita, Robert, Terry, and Ginger.
Jettie worked at several different jobs including Sunflower Childcare Center where she found her perfect fit. She worked at Sunflower for 20 years until she retired in 2002. Jettie loved getting visits from family and friends. She always kept her candy dishes full of treats for everyone to enjoy. Jettie was a member of First Lutheran Church in Decorah. Jettie loved bowling for many years, fishing in Canada, family camping weekends with “Borsheim” stew, and always looked forward to winning her jackpot at the Lady Luck Casino. Jettie’s last two months were spent as a resident at Aase Haugen Home.
Jettie is survived by her five children: Vickie (Lewis) Olson, Rita (Gerald) McConnell, Robert (Judy) Borsheim, Terry (Steve) Falck all of Decorah, IA and Ginger (Tony) Johanningmeier of Des Moines, IA; fourteen grandchildren: Scott Olson, Clayton, NC, Christopher (Rachel) Olson, New Hope, MN, Jerald Jason (Laura) McConnell, Cresco IA, Melissa (Jayme) Folkedahl, Jamie (Emily) McConnell, Heather (Drew) Batterson, Rory (Lynette) Borsheim, Trever Falck and (special friend, Kayshia), Robyn (Aaron) Hanson, all of Decorah, IA, Jarred Falck and (special friend Emily) of LaCrosse, WI, and Amanda Richard and (special friend Ryan), Andrew Richard, Tony and Kaitlyn Johanningmeier all of Des Moines, IA; nineteen great grandchildren: Mitchell, Christian, and Lauren Olson, Emily, Morgan, and Olivia Olson, Zander McConnell, Kennedy, Drake, Amelia and Ethan Folkedahl, Mason and Carter Falck, Kyleigh and Braedyn Batterson, Brody, Brynnah, and Brylee Hanson, and Ashton Phillips; and by two sisters: Pearl Blue of Independence, IA, and Eleanor Van Brocklin of Waterloo, IA.
Jettie was preceded in death by her husband Verl on April 11, 1998, her parents, Elmer and Lucille (Lang) Van Brocklin, two brothers, Stanley and Charlie Van Brocklin, and one sister, Barbara (Van Brocklin) Kugel.
