Ellie Anundsen, age 77, of Decorah, Iowa, died Saturday, June 7, 2008 at Aase Haugen Home in Decorah following a lengthy illness.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, June 16, 2008 at Decorah Lutheran Church by Rev. Allen Vik. Private Family Committal Service will be in Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah.

Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Sunday June 15 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah.

Mary Eleanor (Ellie) Glick Anundsen was born February 20, 1931, in Creston, Iowa, the daughter of Kathleen and Arthur Glick.

Her high school career included cheerleading, National Honor Society, National Thespian Society, Homecoming Court, editor of the high school newspaper in the first semester of her senior year and a member of the boys’ golf team.

She entered the University of Iowa in the fall of 1949 and became a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority and Scottish Highlanders as a drummer and dancer. On September 10, 1952, she married John K. (Jack) Anundsen in Wiesbaden, Germany. She was employed as a stenographer in the U.S. Air Force where Jack was stationed.

In April of 1953 she and Jack returned to Decorah, Iowa where she finished her education at Luther College and the University of Iowa graduating with a degree in elementary education with a minor in remedial reading. She taught school for several years until her first son was born. She then ran successfully for the Decorah School Board and served for several terms.

Her family was very important to her. She was very involved with her sons’ school and extracurricular activities as well as camping and snow and water skiing. She won the Oneota Women’s Golf Championship eleven times.

She and Jack lived part time in Florida for many years. Her favorite personal pastimes were golf, bridge, reading and travel.

She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Jack of Bonita Springs, FL and Decorah, IA; two sons, Steve of Littleton, CO., his wife Laura and their three children, Sara of Chapel Hill, NC; Evan of Charleston, WV and Scott at home; Erik of Decorah IA, his wife Melanie and their son Nicholas at home; one brother, Randall of Estes Park, CO and wife Doris, and their two children; Cheryl Raggio and husband Michael and daughter Caitlyn of Westminster, CO, and Scott Glick, and wife Maggie of Fort Collins, CO. Memorials may be given to Aase Haugen Homes, Inc., Winneshiek Medical Center Hospice or the charity of the donor’s choice.
