L. Erma Arness, age 86, of Decorah, Iowa, died Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at Aase Haugen Home in Decorah.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, December 27, 2010 at Aase Haugen Home Chapel with Rev. Allen Vik officiating. Inurnment will be in Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah in the spring of 2011.

Visitation is on Sunday December 26 from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and on Monday after 1:30 P.M. at the Aase Haugen Home Chapel.

Lillian Erma (Haugen) Arness was born June 29, 1924 in Decorah, IA, the daughter of Edwin Theodore and Louise Caroline (Usgaard) Haugen. She was baptized and confirmed at Hauge Lutheran Church. She graduated from Decorah High School with the class of 1944.

She was united in marriage to Francis F. Arness on June 21, 1952 at Decorah Lutheran Church. This union was blessed with two children: Robert and Ruth.

Erma was a homemaker. She really enjoyed all of her family and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very important to her. She liked flowers and gardening.

Erma became a resident of the Aase Haugen Home in the fall of 2002. She died there on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at the age of 86.

She was preceded in death by her son, Bob on January 3, 2008; her parents, Edwin and Louise; her brother, Orland Haugen; two nephews, Erik Haugen and Raymond Felke; her father- and mother-in-law, Richard and Bertha Arness; her sister- and brother-in-law, Ethel (Arness) and Errol Felke.

Erma is survived by her husband, Francis; her daughter, Ruth (Dennis) Gerleman of Decorah; four grandchildren: Brenda Elsner (special friend, Jason Guy) of Ames, IA, Eric (Shelly) Gerleman of Mabel, MN, and John Gerleman and Lisa Gerleman of Decorah; six great-grandchildren: Cheyenne, Montana and Sierra Jump Gerleman, Dustin and Joseph Elsner, and Benjamin Flack; her former sister-in-law, Margaret (Peg) Small of New York, NY and her sister-in-law, Sarah Haugen of Florida; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
