Palmer O. Anderson, age 88 of Decorah, Iowa, died Saturday, July 1, 2006 at his home following a short illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, July 6, 2006 at Jerico Lutheran Church in Jerico, IA, by the Rev. Kent Dethlefsen. Burial will be in the church cemetery with full military honors by Helof Holm V.F.W. Post No. 1977, Bernatz-Symonds American Legion Post No. 163, D.A.V. Hamre-Giesen Chapter No. 8 and AMVETS Post No. 96.
Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 5, 2006 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and an hour prior to the services on Thursday at the church.
Palmer Orval Anderson was born on April 16, 1918 in Elma, Iowa, the son of George N. and Cora (Vaala) Anderson. Palmer was educated in Chickasaw County Country Schools. On November 11, 2004 he was awarded a High School Diploma by the Decorah Community Schools in honor of his military service to the United States.
He was united in marriage to Audrey Huseby on June 6, 1948 at First Lutheran Church in Decorah. The couple has two children: Tim and Tami.
Palmer and his brother-in-law Walter Grosser owned and operated the Barb Restaurant in Decorah for nine years. They then operated A & G Distributing Co. in Decorah for 30 years. Palmer was a World War II US Army Veteran, serving from October 7, 1941 until being honorably discharged on January 3, 1946.
He was a life long member of Jerico Lutheran Church, Jerico, Iowa. He was a member of Bernatz-Symonds American Legion Post No. 163, where he was a past commander; Helof Holm Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1977; Elk’s Club and Silvercrest Country Club, all of Decorah.
Survivors include his wife, Audrey of Decorah; a son, Tim Anderson of Decorah; a daughter, Tami Anderson of Decorah; a sister, Edith (Walter) Grosser of Decorah; two brothers, Calvin Anderson and David (Phyllis) Anderson, all of New Hampton, IA and a sister-in-law, Laurine Anderson of Mankato, MN.
Palmer was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Cletus Anderson; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Anderson; and two sisters-in-law, Betty Anderson and Frances Moerer.
