Vives G. Bollman

Services were held Friday at 1:30 p.m. from the Schutte Funeral Home in Postville for Vives G. Bollman who passed away November 4, at his home in Castalia. Rev. Curtis H. Webster officiated. Burial was in the Bloomfield cemetery.

Vives G. Bollman, son of Moses and Eunice (Brown) Bollman, was born February 1, 1889 in Winneshiek County. He was educated in the rural schools of the county, later attending a school of photography at Bloomington, Illinois.

On November 14, 1913 he was united in marriage to Sada Richards of Castalia. To this union was born 4 children: Donald, who died in infancy; Mildred, Mrs. Phillip Hawk, North Bend, Washington; Gertrude, Mrs. Ed Floody, of Decorah; and Richard of Castalia.

Mr. and Mrs. Bollman farmed for many years in this community and then retired to their home in Castalia. Mr. Bollman worked at the carpenter and electrician trade for some time. For many years he was caretaker of the cemeteries in Bloomfield township.

Vives, as he was known to his friends, was interested in many projects. He was especially interested in the history of the surrounding community and used his skill as a photographer to reproduce many places of interest and historical events and compiled a vast amount of historical data and material. He was a member of the Winneshiek Historical Society and an active worker in the Bloomfield Society. Because of his interest and devotion in compiling this material he has left this community a rich heritage.

He is survived by his 3 children, 3 brothers, Fenton of Caldwell, Idaho; Engle Oberton of San Francisco, and Farrel of Notus, Idaho and one sister, Mrs. Brunnie Post, of Spokane, Washington; 15 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, 3 brothers and one sister, also 2 half-sisters and one half-brother.
