Marian Elizabeth (Solheim) Harding, 61, of Decorah, Iowa, and formerly of Bremerton, WA, died Saturday, July 23, 2005 at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah following a courageous battle with bladder cancer.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, August 1, 2005 at Decorah Lutheran Church by Rev. Allen Vik and Rev. James Glesne, with inurnment in Lutheran Cemetery, Decorah. There will be no visitation. Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include three sons, Carl G. Harding of Washington; James R. Harding of Washington, Anthony R. (Torie) Harding of Yakima, Washington; her mother and stepfather, Frances and Stanley Jeffers of Decorah, Iowa; a sister, Margit E. Hunt of Charlotte, North Carolina; a niece, Jessika W. Hunt of Columbia, Maryland and a brother, Charles M. (Linda) Solheim of Shelton. Washington.
Also surviving are a special friend, Carolyn Dorris of Bremerton, WA; a granddaughter, Katharine Harding of Kent, WA; a grandson, Cameron D. Sticka of Billings, MT; a daughter-in-law, Terrie Harding of WA; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father, C. Melvin Solheim; infant daughter, Serenity; maternal grandparents, Fred and Freda Womeldorf and paternal grandparents, Andrew and Guri Solheim and a niece, Rachel Hunt.
Marian Elizabeth (Solheim) Harding was born 14 December, 1943 in Winneshiek County, the daughter of C. Melvin and Frances Marian (Womeldorf) Solheim. She was baptized on January 9, 1944 and later confirmed at Decorah Lutheran Church. She attended Decorah High School for three years and graduated from Kellogg (ID) High School in 1962. She graduated from the University of Washington, Seattle, with a degree in Criminal Justice.
Her last position in social services was as a live-in counselor for abused women and children in Bremerton, Washington, from which she retired several years ago due to health problems. She was a member of Elim Lutheran Church in Port Orchard, WA for many years where she sang in the choir and served on the worship committee. Marian was the secretary for the Sons of Norway Lodge 2-035 in Bremerton, Washington for some time; was on the board of the Puget Sound Artist Guild (PAG) and the Opera Guild and sang with the Lyrica Ladies Chorus for several years.
She was an accomplished artist in counted cross stitch embroidery, collector of angels and antique perfume bottles as well as jig-saw puzzles and music of all kinds. She was known by all her acquaintances for her lovely voice, the beautiful flowers on her deck garden, and for her kindness, friendship, generosity, and willingness to assist others in any way possible.
Memorials may be directed to Decorah Lutheran Church Music Fund, Hospice of Winneshiek County, or a designation of your choice.
