Orville K. Halverson, age 80 of Decorah, IA, died on Friday, March 18, 2005 at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah following a brief illness.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 21, 2005 at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Decorah, IA by Rev. Kim W. Smith, with interment at Washington Prairie Lutheran Cemetery in rural Decorah.

Visitation will be on Sunday, March 20, 2005 from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Decorah. Friends may also call from 10:00-11:00 A.M. Monday at the church.

Orville K. Halverson was born December 23, 1924 in a two story log home in Springfield Township, Winneshiek County, Iowa, the son of John and Hilda (Orvella) Halverson. He was baptized on January 25, 1925 and confirmed on June 4, 1939 at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Decorah.

He was united in marriage with Dorothy M. Flaskerud on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1948 at Calmar Lutheran Church in Calmar, IA. To this union three children were born: Debra, Kevin and LeEtta.

Orville farmed the home place with his Father, eventually taking over and farming for 32 years. In 1981 Orville and Dorothy built a home in Decorah and moved to town. He worked as a delivery person for Standard Battery in Decorah and also helped his daughter with her businesses, Lars One Hour Photo and Dry Run Liquor Store in Decorah. Orville and Dorothy ran a busy lefse making business. Orville was an active member of Washington Prairie Lutheran Church. He sang in the choir for over 40 years, served as the Washington Prairie Cemetery sexton for 32 years, was a trustee for the congregation and ushered at church services. He was a member of the Luren Singing Society for 10 years. Orville played Shuffleboard at the Decorah Armory every Tuesday and he was a member of the “McGood Ol’ Boys” Coffee Club at McDonalds.

Orville did a lot of volunteering, including caring for the flower gardens at Winneshiek Medical Center. He was always willing to help. Orville enjoyed the simple pleasures in life – the changing of the seasons, the moonlit sky and the outdoors. He loved singing and dancing and especially treasured time spent with his grandkids. He loved to attend their sporting and other school activities. Orville enjoyed visiting with people and telling stories.

Orville died Friday, March 18, 2005 at Winneshiek Medical Center hospice care in Decorah, at the age of 80.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Kevin John Halverson in January 1975; three sisters: Rebecca Halverson, Hazel Espe and Clara Halverson.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Decorah, IA; his two daughters: Debra (Dennis) Larson of Decorah and LeEtta (Ying-Kit “Kit”) Choi of Centennial, CO; his six grandchildren, Jason (Melissa) Larson of Chanhassen, MN, Michael (Amber) Larson of Des Moines, Adam Larson of Ridgeway, David (Sara) Larson of Decorah, Tiffany Choi of Centennial, CO, Addison Choi of Centennial, CO; and his two sisters, Elsie Haugen of Decorah and Julia (Ernest) Soland of Decorah.
