Liz was born January 12, 1928 in Spring Grove, Minnesota to Andrew and Gustine (Langlie) Droivold. She attended the Spring Grove High School. On June 29, 1945 she married Mervin Selness at the Waterloo Ridge Lutheran Church. They farmed in the Mabel area until his death on May 23, 1977. On July 2, 1979 she married Charles Hagen on the farm. They lived on the farm until 1993 when they built a house near Mabel. She sewed drapes for 30 years and enjoyed sewing, quilting, hardanger, playing cards, traveling the West, gardening, feeding the birds, cooking, and taking care of everyone else. She was a member of the Highland Lutheran Church in rural Spring Grove.

Liz passed away Thursday, February 17, 2011 at the Gundersen Medical Center in LaCrosse, Wisconsin at the age of 83.

Liz is survived by special friends Menno and Cara Hershberger, John, Kacy and Lydia Hershberger and 9 grand children of Rock Springs, Wyoming; a sister-in-law Gert Droivold of Faribault, Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews, Chuck (Dawn), Dean, Linda (Jerry), Lois (Dan), Janice (Bob), Michael, Kathy (Fred), Steve, Karen (Tom), and Jon (Gwen). She was preceded in death by her husbands Mervin and Charles; a brother Alden, and a sister Dorothy Groth.

Memorial services will be 11 AM Saturday, February 26, 2011 at the Highland Lutheran Church in rural Spring Grove with the Reverend David Andreae officiating. Inurnment will be in the Mabel Lutheran Cemetery in Mabel and also at the Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Sundance, Wyoming. Visitation will be 5 – 7 PM Friday, February 25 at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel and one hour prior to services at the church.
