Dale I. Dietz, age 86, of Decorah, IA, died on Monday, May 23, 2005 at home in Decorah following a sudden illness.

Funeral Service is at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2005 at First United Methodist Church in Decorah, IA by Rev. Matthew H. Perkins, with interment with full military honors in Bluffton Cemetery in Bluffton, IA.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, May 25, 2005 at Fjelstul Funeral Home and from 12:00 to 2:00 pm on Thursday, May 26, 2005 at the church.

Dale Irving Dietz was born June 9, 1918 in Fairbank, Buchanan County, Iowa, the son of Harry and Abbedell R. (Mitson) Dietz.

He was united in marriage to Jean Lucille Marcy on October 12, 1941 in Lancaster, MO. She preceded him in death on September 11, 1998.

Dale worked as a truck driver for H & W Freight and B.O. White Freight in Decorah. He had also worked at Rath Packing Company in Waterloo and as a butcher in Decorah. Dale was a World War II Army Veteran.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Decorah and a lifetime member of the Decorah VFW Post. Dale enjoyed making lamps; crafting wooden cut-outs of birds and carpentry work.

Survivors include a son, Michael (Rosalind) Dietz of Waterloo, IA; a stepson, Clifford (Dorothy) Johnson of Decorah, IA.; a stepdaughter Beverly Hanson of Sauk City, WI.; nine grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; a brother, Robert Dietz of Wadena, IA; and a sister, Betty Wagner of Keizer, OR.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jean and a stepson, Charles Johnson.
